| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, with drop earring and necklace visible, after the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait. The legend ELIZABETH II is inscribed along the left arc of the field, SOLOMON ISLANDS along the right arc, and the date 2005 appears in the lower exergue. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field, consistent with proof striking. |

| Additional information |
The AV-8B Harrier II, the aircraft commemorated here, was a joint development between McDonnell Douglas and British Aerospace — a second-generation rebuild of the original British Hawker Siddeley Harrier concept. The U.S. Marine Corps became its primary operator, using it extensively during the Gulf War and later operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Solomon Islands issued numerous silver coins in this period under licensing arrangements that had little connection to the depicted subject matter, a common practice among smaller Pacific island mints generating revenue through collector series.
