Additional information

The Perth Mint's lunar bullion series launched in 1996 and ran through 2007, completing the first full twelve-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac before the series was rebooted with new designs. The Dog year issue was struck in 2006 with a stated mintage of 30,000 pieces — modest by bullion standards, but the lunar series consistently underperformed its authorized limits during this period, meaning actual distribution figures frequently fell short.

Fourth portrait obverses, by Ian Rank-Broadley, replaced the Raphael Maklouf portrait across Australian coinage from 1999.
