Additional information

The Perth Mint's Australian Kangaroo bullion series has rotated its reverse design annually since 1989 — a deliberate policy to discourage melting by making each year's issue a collectible in its own right. The windmill pairing in 2010 is among the more unusual compositional choices in the series, reflecting the Mint's occasional willingness to place the kangaroo in an environmental or agricultural setting rather than isolating it against a plain field.

Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, introduced in 1998, appears here in its mature run — by 2010 it had been in circulation on Australian coinage for over a decade before being replaced by Jody Clark's effigy in 2019.
