Obverse description The central field features the coat of arms of Liberia, depicting a sailing ship at sea beneath a palm tree and a rising sun, with a dove in flight above, all within a wreath. A scroll across the shield bears the motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE, and the legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery. The date 2000 is split by the shield, with 20 to the left and 00 to the right, while the denomination 25 DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower rim. A finely reeded border frames the entire design.

Additional information

Liberia's late-1990s and early-2000s gold miniature program produced dozens of tiny commemorative issues nominally tied to historical figures, but the coins were never intended for circulation and had no meaningful relationship to Liberian monetary history. Columbus died in 1506 believing he had reached Asia. The year 2000 issue likely capitalized on residual millennium-era demand for commemorative gold rather than any specific quincentenary or anniversary.
