Issued to commemorate the founding of the National Bank of Dubai, this piece was authorized during a period when the UAE was actively consolidating its financial infrastructure under Sheikh Zayed's federal vision. The NBD, established in 1963, predates the UAE federation itself — it was the first bank incorporated under local rather than British-controlled law in the Trucial States.
