The Bahama Woodstar (*Calliphlox evelynae*) is endemic to the Bahamas and adjacent cays — its presence in Turks and Caicos waters is occasional at best, which made it an unusual choice for a local commemorative. The 1995 issue belongs to a wave of large-format silver pieces produced under the Pobjoy Mint for British Overseas Territories during the 1990s, when the market for 5-ounce collector rounds was near its peak.
