Obverse description The obverse features the uncrowned left-facing effigy of King George VI as engraved by T.H. Paget, reproducing the portrait originally used on Canadian coinage from 1937. The king is depicted with a bare head and naturalistically rendered hair, his truncation visible at the lower field. The engraver's initials 'HP' appear at the truncation of the neck. The surrounding field is decorated with fine concentric wave lines radiating from the portrait, lending a modern aesthetic to the classical effigy. The circular legend reads GEORGIVS VI D · G · REX ET IND · IMP ·, with a beaded border encircling the entire design.
