| Additional information |
Issued as part of the NHL team series that the Royal Canadian Mint launched in 2007, this piece was one of seven franchise-themed quarters released simultaneously — a circulation strike intended for everyday use, not as a numismatic product. The Canadiens' inclusion was commercially safe but historically apt: the franchise holds more Stanley Cup championships than any other NHL team, a fact that made it an obvious anchor for the series.
The triple nickel plating process was adopted specifically for this run to achieve sharper color retention on the coloured enamel applied to the reverse.
