Additional information

One of twelve coins in the 1999 Millennium Series, each quarter issued monthly throughout the year with a different reverse design selected through a national public competition. The July issue celebrates Canada's diverse cultural heritage. Over 100,000 Canadians submitted design proposals — an unprecedented response that forced the Mint to organize judging regionally before a final national panel reviewed the shortlist.

The .925 silver strikes were produced alongside base-metal circulation versions; the silver pieces were sold directly to collectors and never entered circulation.
