Reverse description The reverse, engraved by Tony Bianco, presents a tripartite trimetallic composition commemorating the 35th anniversary of Marc Garneau becoming the first Canadian in space. The central brass core depicts the Space Shuttle Challenger superimposed over a rendering of Earth. The copper-nickel middle ring represents the thermosphere, the orbital altitude of the shuttle, while the bronze outer ring symbolises outer space and is adorned with 35 maple leaves referencing the 35-year anniversary. The dates 1984–2019, the legends CANADA and USA NASA Challenger, and the engraver's initials TB appear within the design.
