| Additional information |
Belize issued this FAO-series piece as part of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's long-running program that enlisted national mints worldwide to produce circulating coinage promoting agricultural development. The Belizean participation reflected the country's heavy dependence on sugar exports at the time — sugar accounted for the majority of export earnings through the early 1980s, and the FAO program offered a low-cost vehicle for signaling development priorities internationally.
KM#77 sees relatively little specialist attention, but FAO coinage from smaller Caribbean and Central American issuers is increasingly tracked as a complete series by thematic collectors.
