Additional information

Part of the Royal Canadian Mint's ongoing Dinosaur Canada series, this issue commemorates Edmontonia longiceps, an ankylosaur-relative recovered from Late Cretaceous deposits in Alberta — the same province whose capital city lends the animal its genus name. The species was formally described from specimens excavated in the Red Deer River badlands, a region that produced a disproportionate share of North America's nodosaurid fossil record during early twentieth-century paleontological competition between American and Canadian institutions.
