Obverse description The obverse features the fourth-portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Dora de Pédery-Hunt, facing right in right profile. The Queen is depicted wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, drop earrings, and a pearl necklace, rendered with fine sculptural detail. The legend ELIZABETH II is inscribed along the upper left arc of the field, while D • G • REGINA appears along the upper right arc, both in raised Latin lettering. A beaded inner border encircles the design, and the mint mark P appears at the base of the portrait, denoting the plated nickel issue. The overall composition is characteristic of Canadian decimal coinage of the late 1990s to early 2000s.
