Issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the Canadian flag, which itself was the result of one of the most bitter parliamentary debates in Canadian history. Prime Minister Pearson's push to replace the Red Ensign consumed 33 sitting days in 1964 — the longest flag debate on record — before the maple leaf design was finally adopted in February 1965.
