Obverse lettering ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA P
(Translation: Elizabeth II Queen by the grace of God)
Reverse description Central design features a prominent oil derrick rising from the lower field, symbolising Alberta's petroleum industry, set against a panoramic background of the Rocky Mountains and a rising sun. In the lower foreground, wild rose blossoms (Alberta's provincial flower) flank the base of the derrick, flanked on either side by stalks of wheat, while a small herd of cattle is depicted in the mid-ground to the right. The denomination 25 CENTS appears to the left of the derrick, CANADA arcs along the upper legend, and ALBERTA / 1905·2005 is inscribed to the right, commemorating the centennial of Alberta's entry into Confederation. The engraver's initials MG appear in the lower right field.
