Obverse description The national coat of arms of Belize occupies the central field, featuring two woodcutters flanking a shield charged with a sailing ship and crossed axes, surmounted by a mahogany tree, and enclosed within an ornamental wreath of local foliage. The motto legend SUB UMBRA FLOREO, meaning 'I flourish in the shade,' appears on a scroll at the base of the arms. The country name BELIZE is inscribed in a bold arc along the upper periphery, while the date 1983 appears in the lower field. The mintmark FM, denoting the Franklin Mint, is incorporated into the legend. The entire design is bordered by a fine beaded rim.
