The Centrale Bank van Curaçao en Sint Maarten was established under the 2010 dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles, when the five-island federation split into separate constitutional arrangements within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Curaçao and Sint Maarten each became autonomous countries, sharing the bank and the Netherlands Antillean guilder — rebranded as the Caribbean guilder — as their common currency. The institutional framework was decades in negotiation.
Nickel plated steel replaced the older nickel-clad compositions as production costs rose, a shift common across small Caribbean issuing authorities by the 2020s.
