| Obverse description | The State Emblem of Sri Lanka occupies the central field, depicting the Sinhala lion passant holding a sword in its right forepaw, set within a circular medallion surrounded by a decorative border of traditional petals and scrollwork. Above the central roundel, a Dhamma Chakra (Buddhist wheel of law) is prominently displayed at the top of the shield. The base of the emblem features a traditional pot of abundance (purna-kalasha) flanked by a petalled sun disc and a crescent moon on either side, all resting on a stepped pedestal. The overall design is rendered in fine relief and faithfully reproduces the national coat of arms adopted at the proclamation of the republic in 1972. |
