Additional information

Andorra issued coinage under episcopal authority for centuries, but these early 21st-century pieces occupy a peculiar legal position: struck without EU membership and without a formal monetary agreement at the time, they circulated alongside euros despite having no official standing under European monetary law. The arrangement was eventually regularized, but coins from this window exist in a gray zone of monetary legitimacy.

Benedict XVI's pontificate began in April 2005, making this a first-year issue under his co-princeship.
