Villaralto is a small municipality in the Sierra Morena foothills of Córdoba province. Like hundreds of Spanish towns, it issued its own fractional emergency currency during the Civil War years after the Republic's small-change shortage became acute — silver and copper hoarded almost immediately after July 1936, leaving local councils to fill the gap with paper cartones and improvised notes backed by nothing more than municipal authority.
The Gari Mon catalogue reference is incomplete here, which itself suggests this is a poorly documented local emission — Villaralto was not a major commercial center, and many of its issues survive only in single or very few examples.
