Villamayor de Calatrava is a small municipality in Ciudad Real province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns it resorted to locally issued emergency fractional paper during the Civil War when Republican-zone coinage effectively vanished from circulation after 1936. These consejo municipal issues were produced in enormous variety — often on whatever card stock or paper was locally available — and most circulated only within the issuing town, accepted by neighbors who had little choice.
The Gari Mon reference places this among the better-documented local issues, though surviving examples remain genuinely scarce simply because the notes were produced in small quantities for a small population.
