Vilamajor — a small municipality in the Vallès Oriental comarca — was among hundreds of Catalan towns that issued their own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republican government's coinages collapsed from hoarding and metal requisitioning. These local *moneda de paper* emissions were authorized under a 1936 Generalitat decree that briefly legitimized what was otherwise a chaotic municipal scramble for small change.

El Secretariat Català printed for numerous town councils simultaneously, which kept costs down but means the printing quality across the series is unremarkable. Turró's catalog remains the essential reference for sorting the dozens of Vallès variants.
