Taradell is a small municipality in Osona, inland Catalonia, and this 25 céntimos note is one of hundreds of emergency fractional issues produced by Catalan towns during the Spanish Civil War. The Republican government's inability to maintain adequate small-denomination coinage in circulation forced municipalities — many with populations in the low thousands — to print their own fractional paper money beginning in 1936. C.A.M. in Barcelona handled an enormous volume of these municipal commissions, which accounts for the shared typographic character across many Osona-region issues.
