Tamarite de Litera, a small agricultural town in Huesca province, was one of hundreds of Aragonese communities that issued its own fractional scrip during the Spanish Civil War after the Republican government's coin shortage became acute in 1936. These colectividad notes were produced locally — sometimes by a village printer, sometimes typed and rubber-stamped — and circulated only within the issuing community. The thick card stock here was a practical choice, not an aesthetic one: it survived handling better than thin paper in a farm economy.
The Gari Monetary catalogue remains the primary reference for these Aragonese issues, many of which exist in single-digit survivor quantities.
