Obverse description Circular violet municipal dry stamp applied to plain paper stock, enclosing the local coat of arms at center — a square vignette with a lighthouse or tower motif. The legend runs along the stamp's circumference in violet letterpress. The note is printed inverted relative to the stamp impression, a common characteristic of hastily produced Civil War-era emergency issues.

Sant Pol de Mar is a small coastal municipality north of Barcelona, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War, its ajuntament issued fractional emergency currency in 1937 to compensate for the near-total disappearance of Republican metallic coinage from circulation. The Generalitat had authorized local bodies to fill the gap, which produced an enormous volume of small-denomination paper across Catalonia — Turró catalogues well over two thousand distinct municipal issues from this period alone.

The thick card stock was a deliberate choice at this format: at 45 × 35 mm, thin paper would not survive repeated handling.
