Rus is a small agricultural municipality in the Campiña region of Jaén, and like hundreds of similar towns across Republican-held Spain, it resorted to printing its own emergency fractional notes during the Civil War after the hoarding of coins — silver and copper alike — stripped local commerce of small change almost entirely. The Consejo de Ministros decree of 1936 authorized municipal and local entity issues, producing an extraordinary proliferation of hyper-local paper that was, by design, only accepted within the issuing municipality.
The Gari Montllor reference being unassigned suggests this piece was either undocumented at time of cataloging or known only from a single example.
