Roda de Barà is a small coastal municipality in Tarragona province, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional paper currency after the Republic's coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply absent. These local emergency emissions, collectively catalogued in the thousands across Catalunya alone, were authorized under the Generalitat's decree of September 1936, which gave municipalities the legal basis to fill the gap.

The printer, Arts Gràfiques Barnadas of El Vendrell, produced notes for several surrounding municipalities in the Camp de Tarragona, making them a recognizable regional supplier for this wave of wartime small change.
