Comments

One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes issued by Catalan municipalities during the early months of the Civil War, when the Republic's central banking system had effectively collapsed and towns were left to improvise their own local currency. Riudor de Bages is a tiny municipality in the comarca of Bages, and the Ajuntament's decision to issue fractional paper was purely pragmatic — metallic coin had disappeared from circulation almost immediately after July 1936, hoarded or melted.

The Turró catalog documents thousands of these Catalan municipal emissions, and Riudor's entry is among the more obscure. Surviving examples are rare simply because the issuing population was small and redemption quantities were low.
