Osor is a small municipality in the Selva comarca of Girona province, and like hundreds of Catalan towns it issued its own emergency paper currency during the Spanish Civil War after the Republican government's decree of May 1937 authorizing local coinage substitutes. The Imprenta Cabruja was a Girona commercial printer with no specialist currency background — these small municipal issues were jobbing work, not security printing, and it shows in the production quality typical of the series.
Turró catalogs hundreds of such Catalan municipals; this one from Osor is among the less frequently encountered, reflecting the town's small population rather than any particular scarcity event.
