Organyà is a small municipality in the Alt Urgell comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of similarly tiny towns, it issued its own emergency fractional currency during the early months of the Civil War when Republican-zone coinage effectively vanished from circulation. The Generalitat eventually moved to suppress these local emissions in favor of centralized scrip, but many municipalities — Organyà among them — had already printed and distributed their notes before any coordination was possible.
Turró catalogues over two thousand such Catalan municipal issues from 1936–37. That density makes condition and provenance the only real differentiators among minor municipalities like this one.
