Mosqueruela is a small hilltop municipality in the Maestrazgo district of Teruel, Aragon — one of hundreds of Spanish towns that issued their own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after coins vanished from circulation almost immediately in 1936. The Consejo Municipal issues of this type were born of pure necessity, not monetary ambition: the Republican zone had no reliable mechanism for supplying small change to rural communities, so local councils printed or stamped their own.
The Gari Monetary catalog reference places this squarely within the documented Aragonese local emission series. Survival rates for Maestrazgo issues tend to be low — these were working notes in isolated communities, not souvenirs.
