Montaverner is a small municipality in Valencia's Vall d'Albaida comarca, and like hundreds of similarly sized Spanish towns, it issued its own fractional paper currency during the Civil War after the Republic's small coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply absent from rural supply chains. These municipal emergency notes, collectively catalogued under the *Guerra Civil* series, were produced locally with whatever printing resources were available, which for a village of this size typically meant a hand-stamp, a simple press, or a stationer's block.

The Turró and Gari catalogues treat the Valencia provincial issues with granular specificity precisely because survival rates vary enormously even between neighboring towns.
