Mazarrón's municipal council issued emergency fractional currency during the Civil War to address the near-total disappearance of small coinage from circulation — hoarding and requisitioning had stripped the Republican zone of metallic change by mid-1937. Hundreds of Spanish municipalities printed their own paper fractions that year under similar pressure, but the survival rate for these local issues varies dramatically by town. Mazarrón's output was small.
The Garrido Montón catalog reference places this squarely in the documented corpus of Murcian emergency issues, though quantities printed and redemption records for Mazarrón specifically remain poorly documented.
