Reverse description Essentially plain brass field bearing faint incuse impressions, likely the bleed-through of the obverse design visible as mirror-image ghosting of the radiating legend. No intentional design elements, inscriptions, or devices are present on the reverse, reflecting the rudimentary striking technique employed for this emergency issue. The surface shows characteristic tool marks and planishing consistent with improvised wartime coin production.

Additional information

Marchena's 1936 emergency coinage was issued in the opening weeks of the Spanish Civil War, when the nationalist uprising severed normal currency supply lines across Andalusia. Small municipalities across the Republican zone — and some in contested territory — produced their own cartón or metal tokens to keep local commerce functioning. Marchena, a town in the province of Seville, fell under nationalist control relatively early in the conflict, making the circumstances of this piece's actual circulation window unusually compressed.
