Malpartida de la Serena is a small municipality in Badajoz province, Extremadura, and like hundreds of similar towns across Republican Spain, its local council issued emergency fractional scrip during the Civil War to fill the void left by hoarded and disappeared coinage. The 25 céntimos denomination was the most common tier of these municipal emissions — copper and bronze coins of that value had largely vanished from circulation by 1936–37, making small-denomination paper an operational necessity rather than a monetary ambition.
The Garrido Moraga reference is incomplete, which is unsurprising for a note from a village of this size. Surviving examples are genuinely rare, not because the issue was historically significant, but because almost nothing from these micro-emissions was preserved.
