Madrigueras is a small municipality in Albacete province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its Consejo Municipal issued fractional paper currency to address the near-total disappearance of metallic coin from everyday commerce. The Republican government tolerated — and eventually tried to regulate — this explosion of local emergency issues, but towns often printed ahead of any formal authorization.
The Gari Monovar catalog (the standard reference for Spanish Civil War local issues) assigns this a single known type under 866-A, suggesting limited documentary variation within the series.
