Comments

Lorca's municipal small-change notes were a direct consequence of the coin hoarding crisis that paralyzed commerce across Republican Spain from mid-1936 onward. As metallic currency vanished from circulation, hundreds of municipalities printed their own fractional paper to keep local trade moving — Lorca among them. These emergency issues had no formal backing and were redeemable only within the issuing municipality, which made them worthless the moment political or military control shifted.

The Edifil reference places this within the exhaustively catalogued Spanish Civil War local issues. Survival rates vary enormously across the series; some Lorca denominations are genuinely scarce, others less so.
