Letur is a small municipality in Albacete province, and like hundreds of similar Castilian and Manchegan towns, its local council was forced to issue emergency fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War when Republican-zone coinage effectively vanished from circulation in 1936–37. The Consejo Municipal stepped into that vacuum with low-denomination notes that functioned purely as local scrip — accepted within the town, worthless beyond it.
The Gari Mon cataloguing for these Albacete provincial issues is the only systematic reference for most of them. Survival rates vary enormously by municipality; some issues turn up regularly, others are represented by a handful of known examples.
