Laujar de Andarax is a small municipality in Almería province, and this note is a product of the Spanish Civil War's near-total collapse of small change circulation. From 1936 onward, hoarding of metal coinage left Republican-held towns issuing their own emergency paper fractions — a phenomenon so widespread that the Generalitat and various ministries eventually tried, with limited success, to standardize it. Laujar never waited for that standardization.

The printer, Tipografía Alarcón of Águilas, produced emergency fractional notes for several Murcian and Almerian municipalities during this period. Águilas is roughly 120 kilometers from Laujar — not a local job, which suggests the alcaldía had no adequate press of its own.
