Laguarres is a village in the Ribagorza district of Huesca province, Aragon — a community small enough that its wartime emergency scrip represents one of the more obscure corners of the Spanish Civil War local currency phenomenon. When the Republican government's decree of 1936 authorized municipalities to issue their own emergency fractional notes to address the catastrophic coin shortage, hundreds of Spanish towns responded, but few as small as Laguarres. The thick card stock was a practical choice: proper banknote paper was simply unavailable to a village council operating under wartime conditions.

Gari Mon#809-B suggests a second variety exists, implying at least minor typographic or production differences between issues — a detail that matters considerably to collectors working this series.
