La Sénia is a small municipality in the southernmost corner of Tarragona province, and like hundreds of Catalan and Valencian towns during 1936–38, its ayuntamiento issued emergency fractional currency to compensate for the near-total disappearance of metallic coin from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply gone. The Republican government's inability to supply small change at the local level forced this patchwork of municipal paper into existence across thousands of communities simultaneously.
Imprenta Solé handled a substantial share of these Tarragona-region municipals, which gives the series a recognizable typographic consistency even across different issuing bodies. Turró catalogs this as #2332, placing it within a well-documented but genuinely extensive corpus of Civil War local issues.
