Hinojosas del Duque is a small municipality in northern Córdoba province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns it issued its own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republic's central government failed to keep small-denomination coinage in circulation. These local issues — known as cartones or billetes locales — were produced under Republican-controlled municipal councils throughout 1936–38, typically by whatever printing resources the town had on hand. The thick card stock was a practical choice: it held up better than thin paper in daily transactions handled by many people.

Gari Mon catalogues this as #761-A, implying at least one variant exists for the series.
