Obverse description Blue note centred on a vignette of a seated allegorical female figure wearing a Phrygian cap, holding a caduceus in one hand while resting her arm on the coat of arms of the Spanish Republic. The issuing authority and denomination legend are arranged around the central vignette, and the overall design is executed in a simple letterpress style typical of Spanish Civil War municipal emergency currency.

Higueruela is a small municipality in Albacete province, Castile-La Mancha, and like hundreds of similar Spanish towns it issued its own fractional emergency currency during the Civil War after metallic coin disappeared almost entirely from circulation by mid-1937. These local consejo notes were produced under desperate conditions — often on whatever paper stock was available — and the issuing authority rarely had access to professional printing equipment. Quality and consistency varied even within a single series.

Survival rates for Higueruela municipals are low. Small-town Spanish Civil War issues were produced in limited quantities, circulated intensely in very restricted geographic areas, and were rendered worthless almost immediately after Nationalist forces consolidated control of the region in 1939.
