Gualchos is a small municipality in the Alpujarra coast of Granada province, and like dozens of similarly minor Andalusian villages, its workers' council issued fractional emergency paper during the Spanish Civil War to address the acute shortage of small coin that followed the July 1936 uprising. The Consejo Obrero Campesino — a peasant and agricultural workers' council — had no formal banking infrastructure behind it. These notes circulated on trust, locally, and almost entirely within the village economy.
Papelería Lacoste in Almería supplied a number of these rural Republican emergency emissions, which accounts for the shared visual grammar across several Granada and Almería province issues. The Gari catalogue reference remains unassigned, reflecting how poorly documented the Gualchos emission is — survival rates for village-level wartime fractionals from this region are extremely low.
