Formentera del Segura is a small agricultural municipality in the Vega Baja del Segura, and like hundreds of similarly sized Spanish towns, it issued its own fractional emergency currency during the Civil War after the Republic's small-denomination coins vanished from circulation almost immediately in 1936. The Ayuntamiento notes were a purely local fix — accepted at the corner shop, refused everywhere else.
The Gari Mon catalogue remains the primary reference for these Valencian municipal emissions, most of which were produced in tiny quantities with rudimentary printing equipment and no security features whatsoever.
