Comments

One of hundreds of emergency fractional issues produced by Catalan cooperative societies and municipal bodies during the Civil War, when Republican Spain suffered a catastrophic shortage of small-denomination coinage. The Sindicat Agrícola Cooperatiu de Ferran del Penedès — a agricultural cooperative in what is now Font-rubí comarca — issued these locally rather than waiting for centralized Republican supply that never reliably arrived.

At 43 × 33 mm, this is among the smallest paper issues of the entire Spanish Civil War emergency series. Printed on card stock rather than banknote paper, reflecting whatever materials the cooperative had on hand in 1937.
