Castellserà is a small municipality in the Urgell comarca of Catalonia — during the Spanish Civil War, hundreds of Catalan and Aragonese towns issued their own emergency fractional currency when the Republic's coin supply collapsed after 1936. These ajuntament notes filled the void left by hoarded and melted metal. Grafos, by then operating as a collectivized press under CNT-FAI control, handled an enormous volume of this municipal scrip out of Barcelona.
Turró catalogues over a thousand distinct Catalan Civil War issues; #766 places this squarely in that documented but often overlooked corpus of hyperlocal wartime paper.
