| Obverse description | The municipal coat of arms of Castellbell i el Vilar is centred in the upper field, flanked by floral ornamental devices and a vignette of an automatic loom with its change mechanism, referencing the locality's textile industry. The face value and the full bearer clause, citing the agreement of 22 May 1937, are set in letterpress across the body of the note. A border of fine ornamental rules frames the entire composition. |

Castellbell i el Vilar is a small municipality in the Bages comarca, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional emergency currency when the Republic's coinage supply collapsed in 1936–37. The hoarding of metal — copper, silver, anything with intrinsic value — was immediate and nearly universal, forcing even the smallest ajuntaments to print paper substitutes for denominations that had never existed on paper before.
The printer, C.A.M., handled a significant volume of these municipal emergency issues out of Barcelona, which accounts for the relatively consistent production quality across otherwise obscure small-town notes in the Turró catalogue.
