| Obverse description | At left, an oval vignette bears the municipal coat of arms of Castellbell i el Vilar — a tower above water — encircled by the legend 'AJUNTAMENT DE CASTELLBELL I EL VILAR', set against an underprint of blurred rounded forms. To the right, the denomination 'VINT-I-CINC CÈNTIMS' is rendered in bold letterpress alongside the numeral '25' in large format. The authorising text and two manuscript facsimile signatures of the Alcalde and the Depositari appear below. |

Castellbell i el Vilar is a small municipality in the Bages comarca, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War it issued its own fractional currency after the collapse of small-change supply in 1936. The Generalitat had authorized local emergency issues, but quality and oversight varied wildly — a Barcelona commercial printer like Martí, Marí y Cía. producing these notes was a cut above the truly improvised municipal stamps printed on card stock elsewhere.
Turró catalogues well over a thousand such Catalan local issues; #700 places this squarely in the dense middle of that documented explosion of wartime municipal paper.
