Candasnos is a small agricultural village in the Huesca province of Aragon — an area where anarcho-collectivist structures took particularly deep root during the first months of the Spanish Civil War. The CNT-affiliated collectives that seized control of such villages in late 1936 frequently abolished money altogether internally, making the existence of a locally issued scrip note something of a contradiction: a collectivity ideologically opposed to currency, printing currency because barter alone couldn't sustain trade with the outside world.
The control stamp is the only security measure, which was standard for emergency village issues of this type — and easily forged, not that it mattered much given the note's strictly local acceptance and short operational life.
